Medicine wheels are\u00a0Stone circles<\/strong>\u00a0which have been used for thousands of years by various Indian tribes in North America as traditional places of worship and sacred places for \u201emedicine\u201c for healing and meditation, prayers and ceremonies, representations of life and cosmic cycles or astronomical instruments.<\/p>

For Indians, everything that exists contains a\u00a0Spirit<\/strong>, The power of the spirit of creation and every plant, every animal, even the soil and stones have a soul that is connected to all souls and the Creator. Everything in nature and in the cosmos is round or spiral and so our lives also run in cycles. The medicine wheel is the\u00a0Life path<\/strong>\u00a0of the human being. It is a way of understanding the universe. The universe is the mirror of man. All things in the wheel of the universe have spirit and life.<\/p>

There are medicine wheels in the form of a stone circle with a pile of stones as the central scar, at least one concentric circle and two or more spoke-like rows of stones, such as the large approx. 5000 year old <\/span>Medicine wheel on<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Big Horn in Wyoming<\/strong>, which may have been aligned by Natives according to astronomical events such as the position of the sun and solstices.<\/span><\/div>

Also known is the\u00a0<\/span>Medicine wheel of the Lakota<\/strong>\u00a0as a symbol for the whole people. This hoop with 4 spokes represents in the sacred colours (yellow, white, black and red) the 4 cardinal points and seasons, ages of man, the 4 elements (fire, earth, water and air), sacred totem animals (eagle, coyote, bear and bison) and the 4 virtues of the Lakota (wisdom, bravery, strength of soul and generosity) with Mother Earth and the creative power in the centre (often as a bison skull).<\/span><\/div>

In Europe, the\u00a0<\/span>Medicine wheel from Sun Bear<\/strong>\u00a0which was shown to him in the form of a vision as a dance of the animals by the Great Spirit.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>

It consists of\u00a036 stones<\/strong>, the\u00a0Creator<\/strong>\u00a0in the centre,\u00a0Earth<\/strong>,\u00a0Sun<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Moon<\/strong>, the four element clans (Earth<\/em>-Turtle,\u00a0Water<\/em>-Frog,\u00a0Fire<\/em>-Thunderbird,\u00a0Air<\/em>-butterfly) in the inner circle, the four guardians of the cardinal points as guardians of the spirit, the 12 moons and their totems and the four soul paths as spokes of the wheel. Each stone is individually assigned the properties of elements, minerals, plants, animals and colours, which are observed by people for their life and spiritual development and are intended to guide them towards the higher self during meditation as an aid to life.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

This medicine wheel represents the\u00a0Knowledge of the Lakota<\/strong>-Indians, our\u00a0Celtic ancestors<\/strong>\u00a0and stargazers\u00a0Egyptian<\/strong>\u00a0important\u00a0cosmic cycles<\/strong>\u00a0of the earth, sun, moon and planets, star constellations, the Celtic annual cycle, signs of the zodiac, etc.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

In the centre as \u201eMer-ka-ba<\/strong>\u201c a\u00a0six-pointed star<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0Forces from\u00a0Mother Earth<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0Cosmos<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0Sun<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Moon<\/strong>, which\u00a07 continents<\/strong>, and 1st circle of stones for the\u00a024<\/strong>\u00a0Hours<\/strong>\u00a0and times of day.<\/p>

At the 2nd circle the\u00a08 Planets<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Celtic annual festivals<\/strong>,\u00a0Weekdays<\/strong>,\u00a0Precession<\/strong>\u00a0the earth's axis and\u00a0Milky Way<\/strong>. On the 3rd circle the\u00a0Zodiac sign<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Moon phases<\/strong>, and at the outermost circle the holy\u00a0Star constellations<\/strong>\u00a0of the Lakota.<\/p>

As a connection to the southern starry sky, which is not visible to us in Europe, the double star\u00a0Alpha Centaurus<\/strong>\u00a0and the five stars of the\u00a0Southern Cross<\/strong>\u00a0added. These stones symbolise the astrology of the Zulus in South Africa, the Incas in South America and the Aborigines in Australia and New Zealand.<\/p>

For the Lakota and other Natives, the stones of a medicine wheel are the\u00a0Mirror-like representation<\/strong>\u00a0here on earth of all the visible and invisible forces that exist in the heavens. They used particular star constellations as markers for their nomadic migration to the summer or winter camps, their sacred animals, mountains and ritual sites as exact reflections of the Black Hills in the \u201eSacred circle<\/em>\u201c in the centre of the Milky Way.<\/p>
